He is from the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2014, he was selected for the Lok Sabha for the eighth time, one of the three members of the Lok Sabha, and currently the longest serving a member. He represented the Indore constituency of Madhya Pradesh from 1989 to 2019. He worked for a time as an Union Minister. He remained minister for human resources, communication and petroleum departments from 2002 to 2004. He is the biggest and supermominal woman in the women members of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha.
